ALL OR NOTHING MINDSET TRAP

Some of us lack a couple of notches; it’s either full power ahead or nothing.

All or nothing thinking says: “You either do this perfectly, or you don’t even bother.”

It’s one of the biggest road blocks to making positive changes in your life. Really it is one of the biggest road blocks to making your life work at all.

To be perfect, means to be complete. Complete includes your flaws and falls.

TIPS TO AVOID THE “ALL OR NOTHING” mindset trap.

  1. Don’t take on too much too quickly.

  2. Set small, realistic goals that build up to your big, main goal - things that you know you will be able to achieve.

  3. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself on seeing immediate results, otherwise you will be disappointed. Know that obtaining results takes time. You will get there but not if you keep waiting for the results to show up.

  4. Any workout – even if it is small is going to help you reach your goal.

  5. Your health is important – nourish your body with the right foods and it will reward you. Take one day at a time.

Too many people quit their new “diet” or training regime or lifestyle change due to having this “all or nothing” mindset. Definitely aim high, however have a mindset that isn’t just black and white – make sure all of the grey hues are incorporated too.

Don’t set unrealistic short term goals – be honest with yourself, make them achievable. It is better to take a slower approach to changing your whole lifestyle to a more healthy way of living instead of just doing a crash diet/training course where you are "all in" for a short period of time.
